1. Definition and Characteristics

A high-temperature battery is a lithium-ion battery that can operate in high-temperature environments. Its operating temperature usually exceeds 60°C and can even reach 100°C or higher. The main characteristics of high-temperature batteries are their ability to operate stably in high-temperature environments, their high energy density and power density, and their suitability for equipment that requires high-temperature operation.

-Among all electrochemical systems, these two systems have the longest storage time and the highest working voltage.

-For batteries used at temperatures less than or equal to 100℃, no special design is needed; generally, commercially available batteries can be used after appropriate modifications.

-For batteries used at temperatures less than or equal to 125℃, qualified products can be produced by making appropriate adjustments and controls based on conventional battery production processes.

-Batteries used at 150℃ and 175℃ require special design.

-For batteries used at 180℃ and above 200℃, since the melting point of lithium is 180.5℃, it is no longer suitable for use as a negative electrode. Such batteries must use lithium alloy as the negative electrode. Due to the lack of strong domestic demand and the high investment in safety protection measures required for the production of this alloy, this work has not yet been carried out.

2. High-Temperature Battery Principle:

From the foreign samples we have seen, most batteries belong to the 150℃ grade.

For batteries used in oil wells, the key is how to meet the requirements of the high-temperature environment in the well and ensure the safe and reliable operation of the battery.

To meet the high-temperature requirements, the following factors should be considered:

-Thermodynamic properties of battery contents

-Mechanical properties of the battery casing

-Safety design suitable for high-temperature environments (short-circuit resistance, reverse polarity resistance, overcharge resistance, impact resistance, vibration resistance, etc.)

-Electrical performance design suitable for high-temperature environments (ratio of positive and negative electrode active materials, selection of electrode thickness, selection of additives, etc.)

 

3. Applications:

With the rapid development of oil exploration and exploitation, electronic technology is widely used in oil instruments and equipment, and the requirements for supporting special battery technology are getting higher and higher, and the demand is getting larger and larger. Since high-temperature lithium batteries were originally only produced by a few countries such as the United States and Canada, China mainly relied on imports. Imported batteries are expensive, have long delivery cycles, and tie up a lot of funds, which is no longer suitable for the rapid development of the petroleum industry. The high-temperature lithium batteries produced by our company have been verified by many units' actual batch use, and various technical indicators have basically reached the level of foreign products, and can completely replace imported products.
